I went on reading. I came upon the story of a forty-year-old woman from Ayacucho:

One night, while we were asleep, a group of soldiers with a torch burst into the house in the early hours, five or six of them there were, and they took my son. Just to question him, they said, they just wanted to question him but then when we went to the barracks they told us they’d never heard of him. Days passed and still we didn’t find him. No one could tell us anything about what had happened to him. We never saw him again. We went back again and again and we asked but the soldiers always said the same thing, we don’t know anything, come back tomorrow, that’s what they said. And life is too big now, too empty without my son.
